The best tricks from a cleaning expert

With this step-by-step guide you will take the shine of your mirrors to another level, beyond the newspaper trick and circular movements.

Mirrors accumulate dust and fingerprints, and bathroom mirrors are most often filled with splashes of water, drops of toothpaste, or toiletries. Cleaning a mirror is not difficult, but to make it perfect there is a correct way to do it. Do we agree that there is nothing more frustrating than a recently cleaned mirror that is blurry or that the wipes are noticeable?
There are people who prefer a homemade vinegar solution or an industrial cleaner with good results. But to achieve «perfection» here we show you how to clean a mirror easily by following the cleaning tips.

First, find a glass cleaner.

The best glass cleaners are not only easy and clean to use, but they are also effective at removing dirt and streaks. At Good House Keeping’s Cleaning Lab, experts test how cleansers remove greasy fingerprints, lipstick marks, and other everyday stains (think toothpaste splattered on the bathroom mirror). We’ve rounded up some of our most tested options below, but you can also make a homemade vinegar spray if you prefer to go the DIY route.

How to make homemade glass cleaner.

Please note: If you live in an area with hard water, you can use distilled water in your DIY glass cleaner.
  • 2 cups of water
  • 1/2 cup white or cider vinegar
  • 1/4 cup isopropyl alcohol at 70% strength

How to clean a mirror, step by step

While decorative mirrors can be cleaned every three to five weeks, bathroom décor pieces need more frequent attention and should be cleaned at least once a week. Here you have the perfect guide to make them perfect:
1.-Spray glass cleaner directly onto a clean microfiber cloth or paper towel. Foam glass cleaners can be applied directly to the mirror, but most sprays will  drip onto the mirror surface before you have a chance to clean it.
2.-Wipe your mirror with a damp cloth or towel in an S-shaped motion, starting from the top and working your way down. Never clean in a circular motion as this creates static which attracts dust. «I prefer a microfiber cloth because it’s super absorbent and removes streaks quickly,» says Forté, who suggests the 3.-E-Cloth window cleaning kit, which includes a cleaning cloth and a polishing cloth.
4.-For stubborn or stuck-on stains, such as crusty toothpaste or hairspray, spray glass cleaner onto a scouring pad and scrub the problem area. Then repeat steps one and two.
5.-Dry with a dry microfiber cloth or cloth to polish the surface and remove any remaining scratches.
